 FAQS about our puppies

Where are the puppies born?

All of our puppies are whelped in our home.  Usually our living room or in our bedroom.

Where are they raised?

Our puppies are raised in our home with the hustle and bustle of a household.  They are exposed to people, dogs, loud noises, different textures, toys, etc.  We have a large "playpen" we use in our living room once they are weaned.  We put a piece of linoleum down underneath it so our hardwood floors stay protected.

Do you crop ears?

Ear cropping is optional and is an additional fee paid by the new owner.  We generally prefer you allow us to have the ears cropped.  Many vets do not know a proper Cane Corso Italiano crop.  They tend to go much too short.  It looks fine when the puppy is 8 weeks but as an adult they look horrible.  Generally the vet doesn't realize he needs to compensate for the growth of the dogs cranium.

The other advantage to us having the ears done is that you will not have to deal with the aftercare and the stitches.  The stitches should be removed and the puppy's ears standing by the time he/she goes to their new home.

Do you microchip your litters?

YES!  We're very worried about the future of our dogs.  We use AVID chips and ask to be kept as a third contact.  This is just so we know that if you cannot be reached to save the dog, we can be and we can do whatever we can to remove him/her from possible harm. Here is the link for Avid.  www.avidid.com

Do you dock tails?

Yes, tails are docked within the first few days of life.

What about dewclaws?

Rear dewclaws (if present) are removed.  Generally (but not always) the front dewclaws will also be removed.

Will the puppy have any shots?

Yes.  We do a combo shot at 5 or 6 weeks ourselves using Intervet Progard 5 (top of the line - most expensive and effective shots we have found in our research).  They usually get another shot at the vet before they go to their new homes.

Do you worm the puppies?

Yes.  We usually worm at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks.  We also get fecal tests done at 8 weeks to make sure the wormer has done a good job.

What about a health certificate?

All of our pups are taken to the vet for a check up and health certificate before they are shipped or to be picked up by their new owners.  Because of this, we prefer to have advance plans made for the puppy's transfer.  It can be difficult to get appointments with our vet if not done in advance!!
